Let me introduce myself, My Name is Teresa Reade and I am 50 years old, I Iive with my husband Malcolm, we have been together for 34 years, we have one son William who is 22 years old and is currently still living at home whilst working full time as a project design engineer, he is looking to buy his first home with his girlfriend. We also have our 14 year old Tibetan Terrier dog Dexter.
In 2019 I suddenly lost my Mother in law and my mother in 2020. This resulted in our little family having to help our dad’s with their new ways of independent living, cleaning, cooking, running errands, escorting them to appointment. All this whilst working full time at a GP surgery as a Manager, basically doing all the things our mums used to do. Sadky in 2024 we also lost my father in law, and at the same time my own dad got taken into Hospital and has spent many weeks there, we will be moving dad into a nursing home in January 2025 as his dementia has sadly worsened and he needs around the clock care now.
Life became that little bit more hectic whilst juggling my job, teenager, dog, dads and our own home to look after. Then I wondered how other people in my position managed all this. I did my research and found that although there are some services in the Oldham area similar to mine, they didn’t offer that personal touch.
Background
I have lived in Oldham all of my life, having attended a small local Catholic school called Sacred Heart Primary, then onto Counthill secondary School. I was considered to be a quiet but caring child throughout my school life. I was also a very keen dancer and danced throughout most of my childhood with a local Dance Troupe called the Oldham Imperials where we competed up and down the country.
Later on in my secondary education life I studied for my exams whilst living in a very busy Public House in Oldham, I helped my parents in the pub by collecting and washing glasses, serving meals, and cleaning etc, this is where my confidence grew. I also met my husband Malcolm who played for the football team at the pub. At this time I also used to dance for another successful, local Dance Troupe called the Krystals and competed most weekends for 6 months a year. When I finished my GCSE’s (I achieved 5 GCSE passes), I then started a Youth Training Scheme at Thorne Fire Protection based in Hollins, Oldham. I commenced my working life training to be a secretary where I attended college once a week to further advance my business administration skills. Academically, I always did my best in all my subjects as well as giving me best in my work.
I quickly became more confident and developed my people skills, I loved organising my own work loads and working along side a team of colleagues, I was known to be the chief organiser of any social events and this had been maintained throughout all my working life!
I went onto to gain my Level 3 in Business Administration NVQ qualification before being made redundant when the company relocated to Wales.
I had a few similar jobs but found my forte in life when I started working at a Record Label in Manchester, although I didn’t enjoy the commute to the Centre of Manchester, I thrived on meeting and greeting the many clientele in this employment. I experienced a lot of great moments having met some celebrities. These memories were great but my time in the industry didn’t last too long and I had to move onto new pastures.
Having realised how much I enjoyed working and helping people, I then commenced my employment in a Customer Service Role at a local motor vehicle garage. Once again I flourish in this type or work. I was recognised as being a very helpful, kind and trustworthy person to all the customers, receiving many gifts and recognition for my help, and even sometimes house sitting for customers.
I only left the motor industry having had my son, I decided I wanted to try to spend more time with my little family and the line of work I was in at the time wasn’t ideal due to long, late nights & weekends and my work life balance was under review.
I them commenced work at Oldham Council as a part time administrator to fit around taking my son to nursery, once again I really enjoyed my work, having to speak to many people and help some of the business owners in Oldham with grants etc. I progressed onto other technical roles where my skills once again developed in a new area, I began producing technical drawings for plans in the Oldham area, including some of the Metrolink work and helping local companies find new premises.
I realised after 14 years that wanted to get back to helping people and giving my time to those who need and appreciate it.
What better place to work but to then move onto a local GP surgery as a receptionist, I thoroughly enjoyed my work, I loved helping and giving my time to patients, listening to them and having lots of fun with them too. I once again was recognised as the planner or social gatherings, patient events. I was respected in the role and my passion for helping others, which in turn encouraged me to progress to Management, having the confidence and backing from my family, including my mum, who told me when I was offered the position as Practice Manager that I was made for the job and that they were lucky to have me there, well she would say that as she always had faith in me, she knew I was a hard worker and thrived to better myself.
Sadly my mum passed away 5 days after starting my new role. I didn’t really have time to grieve, I was working in a new tough management role, having to meet demands, manage a team of 14 including clinical and administration staff, meet deadlines, attend meetings and hit targets, all this whilst COVID and lockdowns just hit us. This took its toll on me and sadly I decided to give my role up after a year. I was lucky enough then offered a role as an Assistant Practice Manager at another local GP surgery. I thought this would be a great opportunity to take a step back with less stress and undertake succession training to become a Practice Manager again with more confidence receiving hands on training, whilst this had been a great opportunity and happier times than in the past two years, find that I still struggled to juggle the demands of the job and my dads health and needs, I also greatly miss that connection with people that I so thrive in.
I suppose you may wonder what I like to do in my own time with everything you know about me now ? well I enjoy the many camping adventures we have in our Campervan, we love to visit places all over Great Britain, attend festivals, do lots of dog walking with good friends, and when possible also like to try to squeeze in a little city break away abroad. I enjoy socialising with my friends, BBQ’s (when the weather is good!). I love gardening (when the weather is good!!). I enjoy to cook my specialities is curries & home made burgers, usually with a little tipple of wine, red or prosecco, I’m not that fussy ……..
After 2 years of attending dance classes myself and Malcolm are still learning a different style of dancing to what I know and have continued with our ballroom classes where we attend once a week, we have learnt the basic skills of Cha Cha Cha, Waltz, Jive, Rumba, Tango, Quick Step, & Samba who would have thought it !!!!
I have always been a busy person, whether that be work, social or helping a friend or family. I then thought, why don’t I do this as my job? So after many family chats, laughter, tears and every emotion you can think of, I took the big step to set up Trust Tree. I know that I have so much help I can give, which I hope will make you and your families lives that little bit easier, whilst helping me to be much happier in my life, knowing how much I will change your lives for the better.
